Most pet furniture is designed around function and then styled. Nest & Tail starts with furniture design — proportions, silhouettes, and finishes drawn from real furniture — and then builds the crate inside it. The result is a piece that belongs in the room rather than one that sits in it apologetically. Every detail, from the finish to the hardware, is chosen with the home in mind, not just the dog.
Yes. Every Nest & Tail kennel uses reinforced steel bar inserts for structural integrity and security. The enclosed, den-like design supports the natural instincts dogs have toward calm, defined spaces. Finishes are selected to be safe for daily contact. If you have a specific concern about your dog's size, breed, or behavior, contact us and we can help you choose the right piece.
Nest & Tail kennels are built with furniture-grade engineered wood panels and reinforced steel bar inserts. The Modern White finish uses a clean painted surface designed for easy cleaning. The Rustic Walnut finish uses a warm wood-tone laminate selected for depth and durability. Both finishes are chosen for day-to-day home use, not just visual presentation.
Nest & Tail pieces are designed to read as real furniture. The Signature Edition has a taller, compact profile similar to a side table or end table, and works well beside a sofa or in a bedroom corner. The Estate Edition has a wider, lower console profile, similar to a buffet or media unit, and works best along a wall or as a room-grounding piece. Check the dimensions on each product page to confirm fit before ordering.
Wire crates work, but they interrupt the room. Furniture-style dog crates solve the same problem without the visual compromise. A Nest & Tail piece gives your dog a calm, enclosed space while functioning as a real piece of home furniture. It lasts longer, looks better over time, and does not need to be hidden or stored when guests arrive.
Getting the right piece
Sizing & fit
The right size depends on your dog's height and length when standing and stretched out. As a general rule, your dog should be able to stand fully, turn around, and lie down comfortably without touching the sides or top. We recommend measuring your dog before ordering and comparing against the interior dimensions listed on each product page. See our full dog crate sizing guide for detailed guidance by breed and weight class.
Yes, that is the standard we design to. Your dog should be able to stand at full height, turn a full circle, and stretch out when lying down. If your dog is near the upper limit for a given size, we recommend sizing up. A crate that is slightly large is better than one that is too small. Interior dimensions are listed on every product page.
The Signature Edition is designed for single-dog households. It has a taller, more compact silhouette that reads like a side table or end table in the room. Available in Modern White and Rustic Walnut, it suits most medium to large single-dog setups and works best in living rooms, bedrooms, and open-plan spaces where a lighter visual footprint is preferred.
The Estate Edition is built for two dogs or one dog that needs more space. It has a wider, lower console profile similar to a buffet or media unit. The interior is divided to accommodate two dogs side by side, or can be used as one open space for a single dog who prefers extra room. It is the right choice for multi-dog homes or owners who want to size up generously.
If your dog falls at the upper end of a size range, size up. A slightly larger crate is always better than one that is too tight. If you are unsure between editions or sizes, contact us with your dog's measurements and we can help you choose. See the sizing guide for a full breakdown by height and weight.

Living with it
Daily use & durability
Nest & Tail pieces are built for everyday life with dogs, not controlled display environments. That said, damage caused by chewing, scratching, or misuse is not covered under our resolution policy, as it falls outside normal wear. If your dog is prone to destructive chewing, we recommend pairing the crate with appropriate enrichment and training before introducing the furniture. Contact us if you have questions about a specific behavior concern.
Yes. These pieces are designed to be used daily, not brought out for show. The materials and finishes are selected for real-home durability — surfaces that can be wiped clean, hardware that holds up over time, and structure that stays solid with regular use. This is furniture that should get better as the home settles around it, not worse.
For routine cleaning, wipe surfaces with a damp cloth and a mild soap solution. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or steam cleaning, as these can affect the finish over time. The tray or base panel inside the crate can be removed and cleaned separately on most models. Allow all surfaces to dry fully before returning your dog to the crate.
Yes. All Nest & Tail finishes are selected with daily pet contact in mind. The surfaces are designed to be safe for dogs that lean, rest, and move against them throughout the day. If your dog has specific sensitivities or health considerations, contact us and we can share more detail about the materials used in a specific model.
Yes. Nest & Tail furniture is built to furniture standards, not pet product standards. That means materials chosen for longevity, not just first impressions. Pieces that pass through active households, go through daily crate routines, and absorb the normal wear of a dog-owning home are exactly what this furniture is designed for.
